We’re approaching Mother’s Day – another commercial holiday in the U.S. about which we can have mixed feelings. The marketing encourages everyone to give attention to their mom, and talk to her, spend money on her, or if she has left this physical plane, to think of her and miss her.

Mothers definitely don’t mind having a day when they can enjoy some attention, so it’s pretty much a given that a lot of flowers and greeting cards will be sold. That’s the way it works, and I’m no different. I like the attention, love flowers and dinner out, and I miss my Mom… can’t think of her voice calling my name without the eyes getting wet.

American Psychological Association Bolstered C.I.A. Torture Program, Report Says

Sounds like insanity to me!

WASHINGTON — The American Psychological Association secretly collaborated with the administration of President George W. Bush to bolster a legal and ethical justification for the torture of prisoners swept up in the post-Sept. 11 war on terror, according to a new report by a group of dissident health professionals and human rights activists.

The report is the first to examine the association’s role in the interrogation program. It contends, using newly disclosed emails, that the group’s actions to keep psychologists involved in the interrogation program coincided closely with efforts by senior Bush administration officials to salvage the program after the public disclosure in 2004 of graphic photos of prisoner abuse by American military personnel at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

“The A.P.A. secretly coordinated with officials from the C.I.A., White House and the Department of Defense to create an A.P.A. ethics policy on national security interrogations which comported with then-classified legal guidance authorizing the C.I.A. torture program,” the report’s authors conclude.

Floating City Witnessed Over Africa

DULALI, Africa, May 1, 2015 /Daily Offbeat/ -- Hundreds of villagers in Africa claimed to have seen a floating inter dimensional city floating above Dulali, in Lanzai South Ward, Darazo, Africa Local Government of Bauchi State, Nigeria.

According to yournewswire, village tea brewer Saidu Meshai Dulali had "just finished his morning prayer at the local Mosque and was stoking up the stove for his day's work when he noticed that the everything around him became covered in an extremely bright light and he believed he saw the heavens falling on his village.

As he looked up "There appeared a wide, large mass of something that looked like a cloud from nowhere and it was flying slowly over the village just at the height of an average tree."

The floating city was also reportedly witnessed by farmer Dauda Mohammed who said he noticed the UFO over the sky when he waking care of his fields. Mohammed also said he saw buildings in the "floating city" in the clouds.

The Celtic festival of Beltaine, on the First of May, opens wide the gates of summer in the northern hemisphere. This is the time to surrender to the irresistible rising of the life-force under the warmth and light of the growing sun. There is a promise of love and a reminder of the constant greening and renewal of life.

Beltaine and the Ancient Celts

The lives of the ancestral Celtic people were naturally attuned to these cycles as to the rhythm of a spiral dance. They celebrated with dance and song and rituals designed to promote a joyful communion both with each other and with the world of Nature. In Scotland and Ireland, fires were kindled on top of sacred hills. Fire is an earthly reflection of the Sun, once seen as the great Source of all life. When the Druids gathered the wood of nine sacred trees and raised the Beltaine fires on hilltops throughout the British Isles on May Eve, they were performing a real act of sympathetic magic, for the fires were designed to bring the sun’s light down to earth. When the wood burst into flames, it proclaimed the triumph of the light over the dark half of the year. In Scotland, every fire in the household was extinguished, a brief time of darkness followed, and then all the villagers climbed the hill to rekindle their flame from the new source with great rejoicing.

Morgan Freeman has strongly criticised the portrayal of the civil unrest in Baltimore following the death of Freddie Gray – a 25-year-old African-American man arrested for possession of a switchblade – in police custody.

Grey had sustained injuries to his spinal cord and larynx in jail, sparking protests across the city.

While some of those demonstrations were peaceful, some also spilled over into rioting.

And while Freeman believes the media coverage of the unrest has improved since similar scenes emerged in Ferguson last year, he also had a strong opinion on news outlets following the events.

“Now, they’re getting more of the whole picture,” the actor told The Daily Beast. “Ferguson? No. Baltimore seems to be coming up with a different scenario in the background.

“People are saying, ‘You were not all there when we were just talking and trying to make a point, but if we set something on fire, all of a sudden you’re all here. Why is that? What’s the difference?’ And some young reporters are listening. That sort of observation is very useful.”

In 2006, developers wanted to build a shopping mall in Seattle, Washington, over Edith Macefield’s house, but she wasn’t going to give it up. After she refused a million dollar offer the developers decided to build around her house; the picture tells it all.

After news of her defiance hit the internet, her house because a symbol of struggle against the growth of corporatism, even inspiring the film “Up,” in which Pixar modeled its house after Macefield’s home.

In 2008, Edith died and left the home to Barry Martin, the construction chief at an adjacent building site who had befriended her and helped her through her final days. The future of the house was unknown, although Martin said he would like to turn it into a memorial of some kind.
