Oregon Just Became The Third State to Legalize Recreational Marijuana

On October first, Oregon became the third state to legalize the recreational use of cannabis. Dispensaries in Oregon have started selling recreational marijuana to the public, after less than a year since the bill passed. The bill allows Oregon to join the two states where recreational marijuana sales are already legal in Colorado and Washington.

A similar bill has been passed in both Alaska and Washington, D.C., although the Alaskan government is still working out the details, while D.C.’s laws only legalized the possession of weed, not the selling of it.

Medical marijuana had been legal in Oregon since 1998, but now anyone without a doctors note can buy up to a  quarter-ounce per day.

This Woman Spent 14 years Photographing The World’s Oldest Trees

San Francisco photographer, Beth Moon, spent 14 years searching the world for the oldest trees in existence.  She has come across some of the most fascinating and admirable feats of nature in her journey, as you can see below.

There is something to be said for their magnificence.

Moon developed these photographs by embedding tiny crystals of platinum in the paper, producing the 3D element and giving them a structure that can last thousands of years.

According to Moon, “many of the trees I have photographed have survived because they are out of reach of civilization; on mountainsides, private estates, or on protected land.

Fed Up Dentists Are Speaking Out on Toxic Fillings And Fluoride Poisonings

When I was a boy, I was taken to the dentist every 6 months like clockwork for a check up and cleaning. Each time I was taken in, my dentist would stick this foam mouthpiece into my mouth with this goopy blue stuff in it. The goopy stuff? It was a special fluoride treatment.

Stories like mine aren’t uncommon. It’s routine to get fluoride treatments at the dentist’s office.

We’ve all just accepted the use and moved on from it. But should we be looking closer at practices like “silver” cavity fillings and fluoride?

Let’s talk about “silver” fillings.

Silver fillings are fillings that are at least 40% mercury. You can imagine why most dentists call them silver fillings. Mercury is the most poisonous naturally occurring substance on the planet, with the exception of radioactive materials.

This Lost Mayan Metropolis Was Found Deep In The Jungle Of Mexico

Around 250 AD, groups of nomadic hunters and gatherers in and around the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico first began establishing complex societies that would eventually become the Maya civilization. Maya peoples were the only pre-Columbian civilizations to form a fully developed writing system, known as the Maya hieroglyphic script, and was significantly more advanced than many of their neighbors in the areas of art, architecture, mathematics and astronomy.

At its peak, mighty pyramids and enormous temples were lined up precisely with events taking place in the night sky and stone carvings celebrated their great leaders. How the Maya civilization ended is still something of a mystery. The mightiest civilization in the ancient Americas fell to ruin incredibly rapidly. They wrote of a thriving civilization in the ninth century AD, but after that, their records went silent.

It’s not clear how the Mayas met their end, but archaeologists continue to stumble upon the long-deserted City-States that were home to a vibrant people. Most recently, an incredible metropolis was discovered deep in the jungle of the Mexican state of Campeche. The cities were hidden in thick vegetation and could hardly be reached.

This Mysterious Ancient Greek Analog Computer Was Built Over 2000 Years Ago!

Under 45 metres of water, just off the Greek Island of Antikythera is an Ancient Greek shipwreck, discovered within the sunken ship was the Antikuthera Mechanism. A mechanism that is thought to of been used to calculate astronomical positions. However this ancient calculator is very significant due to the fact that it’s as complex as an 18th century top-notch clock, yet was built between 150 to 100 BCE.

It’s an ancient analog computer that consists of a box with dials on the outside and a very complex assembly of about 30 bronze gear wheels mounted inside, nothing similar to this has ever been discovered or is mentioned in any known writings from the period of its creation. The reason that this mechanism is so mysterious is that it can predict astronomical positions and eclipses for calendrical and astrological purposes, as well as the cycles of Olympic Games.

Energy Efficient Bulbs Linked To Anxiety, Migraines and Cancer

For years now, ads have pushed us replace our old standard light bulbs with energy-saving ones. While these bulbs can save you a bit of money, you might be a bit startled to learn that, when broken, they can release 20 times the maximum mercury concentration.

This information was found in a study by the Fraunhofer Wilhelm Klauditz Institute in Germany.

The study found that exposure to these bulbs can be linked to the following conditions:

- Dizziness
- Migraines
- Seizures
- Anxiety

In light of this information, I highly suggest giving a return to old incandescent bulbs some thought. Here are a few more reasons to do so.

Comprehensive Studies Show That Cannabis Cures Migraines

Many of us suffer from headaches, unfortunately, conventional medicine helps in only a few cases and only if the medication is consumed immediately following the first signs of a headache. It is important to note, however, that all of these various medicaments are accompanied by side effects or harmful consequences. Luckily, according to numerous research efforts, there is a universal and harmless cure that is a product of nature itself – cannabis.

The latest work of Dr. Eric P. Baron from the Headache Center in Cleveland is a review of randomized, controlled researches that estimate the role of cannabinoids in pain management. Moreover, the study point out that cannabis is potentially therapeutic in healing headaches.

This Brilliant 13 Year Old Won Google’s Science Fair With A Water Purifier Made Out of Corn Cobs

Lalita Prasida Sripada Srisai is a 13-year-old genius. She’s only in 9th grade, attending DPS Damanjodi, a school in a small town in the Koraput district in the Indian state of Odisha.

She won the ‘Community Impact Award’ at the Google Science Fair in California for her incredible invention. She won in the 13 to 15 year old age group and received 10,000 USD as her prize. She also has the opportunity to be supported by Google to help build her project.

Lalita created a low cost bio-absorbent based water purifier. How does it work? Surprisingly, it uses corn cobs to purify the water!

Corn cobs are incredibly absorbent, making them perfect for collecting contaminants like salts, detergents, different floating particles, coloured dyes, and even some heavy metals.

The Dark Side of Artificial Lights: How Artificial Lighting Effects Our Health

How has your sleep been recently? Is it hard for you to fall asleep in the evening before midnight? Can you open your eyes in the morning without the required cup of coffee; are you often excited and nervous? Especially in winter, one of the factors that affects us most is the lack of enough daylight.

A few years ago, the influence of artificial illumination seemed not to be so strong. However, through the growing use of economical light bulbs and the appearance of laptops, tablets or smart phones at every home and pocket things are getting complicated.

Think – every minute of the day we are exposed to an artificial light source. All of us know we feel better out of the urbanized environment polluted by radiation.

Main artificial light sources:

Screen radiation: television sets, monitors, tablets, smart phones.

Chemical Found In Ayahuasca May Be Able To Completely Reverse Diabetes

Diabetes currently affects hundreds of millions of people worldwide. In America alone, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that number to be approximately 20 million. Potential cures and methods to reverse the disease are showing some promising results, and one of them is a chemical that’s commonly found in a number of plants around the world. It’s also a main ingredient in the psychoactive mixture commonly known as ayahuasca.

Diabetes is an autoimmune disease that prevents a person’s pancreas from producing insulin, which is a hormone that enables people to receive energy from their food. This occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, which are called beta cells. Apparently, the cause is not well understood, but scientists believe that genetic and environmental factors play a role. Modern day mainstream science tells us that there are no cures.

Again, types 1 and 2 diabetes affect some 380 million people worldwide. Both ultimately result from a deficiency of functional pancreatic insulin-producing beta cells, which is where this chemical is showing the most promising results.
