Although humans evolved as Hunter-Gatherers, in terms of the historical time-scale, Modern Man has only rather recently made the abrupt shift from an Active Outdoor Lifestyle to his present Sedentary and Artificial Indoor Way of Life. Physiologically, we thus exist in a state of “Natural Environmental Amnesia.” Although essentially Outdoor Hunters and Gatherers, we attempt to function normally in “Unnatural” Indoor Spaces. Accordingly, we spend most of our time sitting… sitting in the car, sitting in the office, sitting in the bathroom, and sitting on the couch at home. With this in mind, the need for regular Daily Physical Activity should be obvious.

What does it really mean to be connected? Let’s look at some similar terminology: linked, associated, related, allied, coupled, joined, attached, fixed, tied, bonded, united, and coalescent. When it comes down to it, no single word can define the concept of everything being connected to everything else. Even the word “interdependent” falls short.

Even the term “quantum entanglement” doesn’t seem to do it justice. And, really, we shouldn’t expect our limited terminology to describe anything accurately. Our words are just tools we use to communicate an experience that ultimately cannot be communicated. And that has to be okay.

Here are some basic ways in which we can create a shift from being a consumption-driven global society to becoming an environmentally friendly and ecologically-sustainable one:

1. A major shift in the consciousness of global society is needed! We must move from our overriding social focus on needless over-consumption and the accumulation of material wealth – to a new enlightened quest for spiritual wealth, happiness, and fulfillment. Once this new consciousness has been established, consumption levels should be kept within reasonable limits of sustainability, relative to achieving a synergistic balance with the natural resources of the Global Biosphere.

Humanity has lost its connection to nature. We’re so bombarded with artificial imagery and ideals of superficial living that most of us think taking in an occasional sunset or going for a bush-walk is what it means to be united with our Mother Earth. These practices are wonderful, and very grounding, however they are temporary and don’t truly represent the holistic way we most naturally connect to the spirit of our world and the life that it breathes.

As a culture, we have become disconnected from our food. We have forgotten the cycles of natural systems. We are blind to the divine patterns found in nature. We have lost the innate wisdom of knowing our environment like the back of our heart, and knowing our place within it. Instead we have accepted urbanization of our civilization as ‘natural’. In cities we live in a cement jungle, on top of each other but isolated from each other and our natural environment. (In this context, the rise of social media technology is an ironic twist.)

We invite you to think of how wonderful it is when you receive a delightful surprise. The unexpected nature of it makes you feel loved, happy, and cared about, does it not? The fact that you couldn’t imagine it beforehand makes it all the more special.

We encourage you to open yourselves up to great unknown potentials. When you are too specific about your expectations, you can, without even realizing it, limit what the universe can deliver! By staying open to all the expansive and loving offerings of the universe, you make room for so much more to come to you, with far greater ease.
