For many of us, being called “selfish” is worse than any four letter word that you can imagine. In fact, the fear of being labeled “selfish” often causes us to ignore our own important needs and deepest desires. When our entire lives are shaped around the foreboding dread of appearing selfish, not only do we suppress expression, we also disregard what would bring us the most joy in life. We might even stay trapped in jobs and long term relationships well past their expiration date, simply because we are afraid that our choices might be deemed self-serving to others.

On the spiritual path, or even the path of being a “good person,” we are often told to think of others before ourselves. Maybe as children, we were taught that it is bad to be selfish or we were even punished for thinking of ourselves first. In theory, it might sound nice to put others’ needs before our own, but when we constantly put ourselves last without question, we stay asleep and disempowered.

Last month, thousands of farmers joined together to protest the GMO industry and their influence over the Indian government. The farmers who gathered had a number of different complaints, the most common among them was Monsanto, GMO’s, the world trade organization and policies which they believe were written by the biotech industry.

In a recent statement, Shri Rakesh Tikait, National Spokesperson for the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) said that:

“The government is exhibiting its pro-industry stance by pushing for unneeded, unwanted and unsafe GMOs in our farming. We want all open air field trials of GM crops stopped immediately in the country since such open air trials pose not only a risk of contamination but also risk of trade rejection. Further, any moves towards trade liberalization in agriculture whether through the WTO route or through free trade agreements are unacceptable to us.”

AUSTIN, Tx - The Texas House of Representatives Criminal Jurisprudence Committee approved a bill 5-1 Wednesday that would end marijuana prohibition in the state. 

HB 2165, introduced in March by Rep. David Simpson (R-Longview), would strike references to marijuana offenses from Texas statutes, resulting in marijuana being treated similarly to other legal crops.

Nearly three out of five Texas voters (58%) support making marijuana legal for adults and regulating it like alcohol, according to a statewide survey conducted by Public Policy Polling in September 2013.

Four states have adopted laws that regulate and tax marijuana similarly to alcohol. Two of them, Colorado and Washington, have established regulated systems of marijuana cultivation and sales. Alaska and Oregon are in the process of implementing similar systems.

All the meetings and comings and goings in life. What a dance, what an exchange, what a winding and unwinding and rewinding and entwinement and up-in-the-airness. Who could dream up life and connect all the criss-crossing? What kind of computer keeps everything on course and coordinated, no matter how seemingly-fragmented life may be?

The impossible happens all the time. People meet who could never possibly meet. Connections are made and then disconnected and patched up.

What has not happened on Earth and what will happen next?

Life may seem shiftless sometimes and haphazard, yet every note is played beautifully. It is clear that life is about something. Sometimes you find out. Much of the time, life is blurry to you. You tend to focus on the untoward more often than on the beautiful. Life is happening all around you, and nothing is an accident. If nothing is an accident, then everything must be purposeful whether you see the purpose or not.

You take a right turn, and a whole series of events fall into place. The unfoldment of life is unending. Who knows what might have ensued if a left turn had been taken instead of a right, or if no turn had been taken, and you had gone straight ahead or stayed still for another two minutes.

Before traveling to Peru in May 2014, my partner and I planned ahead by researching its effects and reading on others’ experiences. Universally, consuming this medicine is strongly associated with spiritual empowerment and development.

Part of the negative expectations was to potentially have challenging emotional processing, as well as uncontrollable vomiting. This is understood in tribal philosophy to not just be a physical cleansing, but primarily an energetic one.
