Mindfulness Is More Effective Than Drugs For Both Anxiety and Depression

Michael Forrester, Prevent Disease
Waking Times

Mindfulness is “the intentional, accepting and non-judgemental focus of one’s attention on the emotions, thoughts and sensations occurring in the present moment”, which can be trained by a large extent in meditational practices. The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published the results of a ground-breaking study that found that meditation appears to provide as much relief from some anxiety and depression symptoms as antidepressants.

Mindfulness-based trainings have shown beneficial effects on inflammatory disorders in prior clinical studies and are endorsed by the American Heart Association as a preventative intervention. The training provides a biological mechanism for therapeutic effects.

A study in Psychoneuroendocrinology by researchers in Wisconsin, Spain, and France reported the first evidence of specific molecular changes in the body following a period of intensive mindfulness practice.

Daily Message ~ Tuesday March 10, 2015

Dear Ones, fast moving energies don’t mean you will lose your balance. Movement and momentum can, in reality, support your balance, only requiring subtle adjustments as you go. In fact, it can be far more difficult to keep your state of balance with less movement. Think of being on a bicycle. When there is movement it is far easier to keep your balance than when you are slowed to a crawl. Be who you are, trust in what you know, and allow these fast moving energies to sweep you to where your soul has been yearning to go, for so very long. ~Archangel Gabriel

Study: Prohibition on Psychedelics a Violation of Human Rights, Their Use not a Risk Factor for Mental Health Problems

A study of over 130,000 adults, published this month by the Journal of Psychopharmacology, has found that the use of psychedelics such as LSD and magic mushrooms is not a risk factor for mental health problems. Researchers conclude that the prohibition on such drugs is difficult to justify, and is a violation against human rights.

Using a data set consisting of 135,095 randomly selected United States adults, including 19,299 psychedelic users, researchers examined “the associations between psychedelic use and mental health.”

Nature Spirits: Day 189, Nature Spirits

NATURE SPIRITS   All plants have Nature Spirits overseeing them. There are myriads of these Beings living among you. Their role is to assist plants in obtaining their needs. When you go into Nature that is untainted by human hands, notice the symbiotic relationship between plants and animals. There is always a perfect balance.

These areas provide enough food for the wildlife. The number of wildlife in the area is naturally balanced. Trees shade bushes, which provide homes and shelter for animals and smaller plants. Insects assist with the clean up process, breaking leaves into perfect food for animals and plants. Birds have places to roost. Bees assist with pollination.

Nature Spirits assist plants as needed. There are many types of Spirits who have been given names such as: sylphs, gnomes, fairies, elves or little people. They have been spoken about in myths and legends for eons. When you have a yard that is large enough, set aside a special area for them where no humans trod and invite them to dwell in this space. If they accept your offer, you will find that these areas flourish when left undisturbed by humans.

Everything Is Known

Most important to you and to the world is how you feel in your heart right this moment. Without exception, this is your gift to the world. Whether you hide what is in your heart or talk about it all the time, the truth of what you feel gets out there and stirs the world clockwise or counterclockwise. It is as if you are a telegram that goes over the wires. Your wire doesn’t have to be seen and read for it to be broadcast. It just has to be typed, and its message reaches everywhere. Like moisture in the air, it is just there. You don’t have to think about it. It’s just there, and it affects you whatever is written. You don’t have to be conscious of it for it to affect you.

There are many messages going around over the airwaves.

You also send subconscious messages to yourself. You don’t even have to know you’re sending them. And you read them, and the messages sink in. You may meet someone who is hard for you to tolerate for even one minute. Perhaps the person reminds you of someone from the past, and you stiffen. You don’t know precisely why you stiffen. All you know is that you are not comfortable with this person.

Wherever wisdom has happened, poetry has also happened by the side, of its own accord. Poetry is a by-product of wisdom. I don't mean that every wise man is going to write poetry. No, that is not needed - he lives poetry, his whole being is poetry. If you taste Buddha you will know what I mean; if you taste Jesus you know what I mean. Not that Jesus writes poetry - he is not a poet in that sense - but he lives poetry, his each moment is poetic. Even on the cross, his last statement praying to God, "Father, forgive these people, because they don't know what they are doing," poetry. Only a poet can have that much heart.

4 of the Most Important “To Do’s” in Attaining Peace of Mind

“A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Transformation is the essence of all things. There is nothing in this universe that doesn’t undergo transformation. All things change, all things adapt, all thing re-form themselves. It is an immutable law of the universe, a dance that has been taking place since the beginning of time, and will last to its end.

Yet most people hate change. As humans, it seems each of us has an aversion, in one way or another, to this most fundamental law. Yet so few of us are living the lives we feel we should be, that we know we could be. Far from being something that the world has done — and continues — to do to us, it is rather a case of what we have failed to do, and what we have failed to be. If you can change yourself, you can change the world, simple as that. And where does all of this ‘change’ start? In the mind, of course.

Long Lost Civilization Found In Honduras Rainforest

A team of archaeologists, while searching for the ancient City of the Monkey God, discovered on something much more incredible: not just a lost city, but an entire civilization lost in the annals of time.

In 2012, an aerial survey of a remote, unexplored valley in Honduras revealed the ruins of a pre-Columbian city. Some thought that it may have been the City of the Monkey God. As the National Geographic reported:

“For a hundred years, explorers and prospectors told tales of the white ramparts of a lost city glimpsed above the jungle foliage. Indigenous stories speak of a ‘white house’ or a ‘place of cacao’ where Indians took refuge from Spanish conquistadores—a mystical, Eden-like paradise from which no one ever returned.”

You Are Not Present

Source

"What is the evidence for me that you are now asleep, and as a citizen of a dreamland you dream that you are awake?

First, that you are not present. To be present means that you are fully alert, attentive, and conscious in the present moment. Whatever you do, you do that fully consciously, you focus your entire attention on that particular activity. Or, do you feel free to declare that you are present in every moment of your life?

The case with you (and with the majority of people) is that you are not awake in the sense described above. You are careless most of the time, as a large segment of your attention is bound by dealing with events of your thoughts, events of past and plans for future and your own self. Psychological time therefore displaces the moment of the present, or subordinates it to past or future. You therefore perform the overwhelming majority of your daily activities mechanically. Your attention only becomes more intensive when you meet someone or deal with something who or that you find interesting, or useful in some way. Or the opposite: the person or thing may do harm to you in some way."

Creating Your Future – Arise Great Warrior, Arise!

Creating Your Future - Arise Great Warrior, Arise!

By Andreas Toupadakis, PhD

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

Are you doing what you always wanted to do? Are you doing what you believe in? Do you live the life that was meant for you to live? From where do you seek approval? Are you looking inward?

There are millions of people around the world who eagerly wait the weekend every week, the summer vacation every year, and later on, long before the age of retirement, they fantasize about that good free time during retirement.  If you ask these people how much they like what they are doing for a living, they will typically answer that their work “pays the bills.”

On the other side of the river, there is a different community of people...

First U.S. City Produces More Electricity Than It Uses — With 100% Renewable Technology

First U.S. City Produces More Electricity Than It Uses - With 100 Percent Renewable Technology

By Carolanne Wright

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

The largest city in Vermont U.S.A. has shown that we don’t need polluting and dangerous energy sources — like nuclear, coal and petroleum — to meet our energy demands. In fact, the city produces more electricity than its citizens require, all by utilizing completely green technology. Acutely aware of the risks associated with conventional energy production, the city has taken a major step in reducing these hazards by adopting a sustainable model for its energy needs.

Surprisingly, this stewardship of the environment also has another perk: long-term financial gain.

The Veil is Thinner Than Ever

Credit: Zodiac-heaven.blogspot.com

By Wes Annac, The Culture of Awareness

I enjoy writing reports about enlightenment, but some of the advice we’ve been given by spiritual teachers from the past isn’t quite relevant to the present.

Depending on which teacher you listen to, the veil was much thicker when they shared their teachings with the world. We’re capable of achieving a lot more in terms of consciousness exploration than when a lot of spiritual teachers were in their prime, and this is a liberating thing to realize.

The veil’s a lot thinner than it used to be, and all it takes is a small meditation to realize that we can glimpse a higher state of consciousness pretty easily.

Exploring our consciousness gets easier with every year that passes, and all we need to do is show a little effort to glimpse things that might’ve been unheard of in some spiritual teachers’ heyday.

Indianapolis to Begin Treating Homeless Like Human Beings

Indianapolis became the first U.S. city to pass a Homeless Bill of Rights measure this week — the latest success for a national campaign to end criminalization of the homeless.

Indianapolis' proposal, passed on Monday and awaiting a signature from the mayor, would protect the rights of homeless people to move freely in public spaces, to receive equal treatment from city agencies, to obtain emergency medical care, to vote and to maintain privacy for personal property, Indy Star, a local newspaper, reported.

The bill would also require the city to give a homeless person 15 days notice before requiring them to leave a camp, the newspaper said. Authorities would be required to store any displaced person’s property for 60 days as well as refer them to nonprofit organizations that could provide services and transitional housing.

"It is much more cost-effective to provide support services and assistance to those experiencing homelessness in our city than to arrest them," Indianapolis councilman LeRoy Robinson said

The Compassionate Perspective

by Geoffrey Jowett

You respond to what you perceive, and as you perceive so shall you behave. ~ “A Course in Miracles”

You are responsible for creating the daily experiences and continuous occurrences of your life. Your perception is the mirror that reflects back to you what is on your mind or in your mind. You influence the happenings of your day from the vantage point of how you see yourself. Do you see yourself as an undervalued servant or an empowered warrior? Do you see yourself as a shamed silent child or is your perspective of yourself the honest and creative person that freely expresses what’s in your heart? What is your point of view?

Your outlook significantly influences where you concentrate your attention and positions your attitude for each moment. When you awaken and begin a new day, be aware of how you perceive yourself since your perception will be the foundation of the thoughts you generate to create the people you will draw into your life, the situations you will participate in and the circumstances you share with your family, business associates, friends and most importantly yourself.
