Grow Your Own Herbal Medicine Garden This Summer (and Beyond)

By Carolanne Wright
Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

For those who are in the thick of summer, now is a fantastic time to plant an outdoor medicinal garden. Don’t worry if you’re into winter, though — it’s also easy to grow a therapeutic herb garden on a sunny indoor ledge. Either way, creating a healing garden is a straightforward and rewarding pursuit, and is a great way to take charge of your day-to-day health and wellbeing. And best of all, it’s fun.

Several plants are well-known, others might be unfamiliar. But one thing is certain, all are powerful for promoting and sustaining optimal health.

Medicinal gardens 101: Which plants are best?

If you have a sunny spot in your garden, on a deck or an indoor windowsill, the following plants will happily thrive:

Catnip (Nepeta cataria)...

The Final Frontier: US Building War Command Center To Take Foreign Policy To Space

According to Defense One, the Pentagon is rushing to build a space war center to sustain its global power. Within six months, the space apparatus will be fully functional, as announced by Deputy Defense Secretary Robert Work at the 2015 GEOINT conference. Work openly admitted the move is an attempt by the Pentagon to maintain global dominance and combat alleged attacks from China and Russia.

Most prominently, the war center is intended to “track spy and military satellites at the same time so US intelligence and military can work together to create the best defense–especially against attacks on its satellite systems,”Gizmodo explained.

Lt. Gen. Vincent Stewart, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, alleged in January that Russia and China are “are conducting anti-satellite research and developing anti-satellite weapons, with the intent of denying the U.S. the use of space in the event of conflict.” Such threats are used to justify American expansion into space.

Daily Message ~ Monday June 29, 2015

Think of young children stood in front of an easel, given paints, brushes and a blank paper to create on. They immediately think what they wish to create, grab the brush and start to paint with abandon. They do not worry about getting it wrong. They simply enter into the flow of what they would like to express, and go with it. They also know that if they do not like what they have created, they can simply get a new paper and create again. There is no hesitation, no agonizing about getting it wrong, just pure expression, and every person who looks at their creation praises what they have done and accepts it.

You could learn much from your children! Joyfully create with abandon! Know that whatever you have made, if it is displeasing to you in any way, can be discarded and you can create again. Embrace experience and self expression. Give yourself permission to be the creative genius of your life and know that whatever you decide to do with it is perfect for you. ~Archangel Gabriel

What Happens to People Who Meditate for the First Time

There have been numerous studies detailing what happens to the brain in long-term meditators, but what exactly happens to people who meditate for the first time?

Sara Lazar, a Harvard researcher, has gained quite some notoriety detailing how the brain actually grows grey matter when people meditate. Other studies have shown that meditation improves IQ, and lessens depression. In addition to these benefits, meditation also:

  • Reduces alcohol and substance consumption, reduces blood pressure (Chiesa, 2009),
  • Decreases anxiety, depressive symptoms, and relapses (Coelho, Canter, & Ernst, 2007; Kim et al., 2009)
  • Helps patients suffering from various types of chronic pain (Chiesa & Serretti, in press)
  • Lowers the incidence of stress (Chiesa & Serretti, 2009)
  • Aids cancer patients (Ledesma & Kumano, 2009)

Most people think they have to meditate for years before they start seeing any of these improvements, but a study conducted by Chiesa, Calati, and Serretti shows that after just eight short weeks of meditation, people start to experience improved cognitive functioning.

Day 40: I Am That, I Am, Ahau 1

I AM THAT, I AM   Clear your mind of all things. Enter the space of No Thing and allow yourself to become one with all. This is best done in nature. Focus on a person, place or thing. Repeat in your mind, “I am that, I am.” Consciously look at similarities you have with the person, place or object you are focusing on. Make a heart connection, creating an energetic flow of energy between you. Well up feelings of gratitude.

The goal is to develop a sense of Oneness, knowing that you come from the same Source. Go deeper into the feelings of actually being that person, place or thing. With practice, you will begin to merge as One. As you go about your day, consciously connect with others, mentally repeating the statement, “I am that, I am.” until you begin to feel one with all. Take time to do this often and your life will blossom in all areas as you rediscover your true spiritual Essence and re-member who you truly are.   Selamet!  Ahau 1, Day 40

The Realms of Sunshine

God said:

From the minute baby birds crack their shells and are hatched, their every need is taken care of. Then comes the day that the fledglings are dropped from their nest and must soar on their own. This is a natural event.

And now, about you, you probably just naturally evolved from your nest, and have been on your seeming own for sometime now. I say seeming own because Our ties are very great. Our ties is an expression of the world. It is really Our Oneness that is very great.

I could never toss you out of Heaven. Impossible. Heaven is where you abide. There was no fall. There was unfocused vision that you called focus, focus on this and that, focus on making a living and finding your way, when, My Beloveds, you, your Self is the way.

At the beginning – We can call it beginning, although you always were - there is a point or raveled edge when you discover responsibility for yourself and no longer expect to be taken care of quite so much. You begin to see that you may well create your happiness and sadness, and that you have the wherewithal to also resolve what seems to be an intrusion on you and go further into the Realms of Sunshine where the abundance of difficulties recedes. You may indeed be the resolver of all that gets in your way.

Simplicity can never be an ideal, because no ideal can create simplicity. It is the ideal which poisons you and makes you complex, divides you, makes two persons in you - the one that you are and the one that you would like to be. Now there is going to be a constant war, a civil war.

And when you are fighting with yourself - the violent person trying to be non-violent, the ugly person trying to be beautiful, and so on, so forth - when you are constantly trying, endeavoring to be something else that you are not, your energy is dissipated in that conflict, your energy goes on leaking. And energy is delight. And to have energy is to be alive, to be fresh, to be young.

The Sacred Spiral: Labyrinths and the Path Towards Wholeness

“The point of a maze is to find the centre. The point of a labyrinth is to find your centre.”

The ancient symbol of the labyrinth, being both the spiral and the circle wrapped into one, has long since represented wholeness. Looking like something between a human brain, a map and a maze, the labyrinth is anything but; not a puzzle to decode, but the beginning and the end all rolled into one. Labyrinths represent our spiritual journeys, seemingly confusing when viewed from an earthly and analytical place, yet woven with the loving care of higher wisdom and a deep awareness that echoes back to us our ancient selves and civilized holiness.

The Psychology Of The Major Arcana (Tarot Cards)

Tarot cards are a form of divination which assist in allowing a sneak peek into a potential future. A common misconception is that the future is set in stone, and when the cards fall – that is your fate. It may be a bit unorthodox to the orthodox tarot reader, but I have come to understand that the future is malleable, and nothing is set in stone. What can be, will be, but will become because of the thoughts your consciousness is projecting. There may be certain aspects of the future that are beyond our control, but what we can control is ourselves, and controlling our thoughts can create a better reality.

In the 21+ years that I have been reading tarot/oracle cards, I have come to discover that there really is nothing magical, mystical, or fantastical about the cards in themselves… however the intention of knowing allows the universe to “work through you” (in a sense) to show you what you may be soon attracting because of your thinking patterns. The cards are not necessarily a tool to tell your fortune, rather a tool for self exploration of what’s happening here and now.
